Good weather for fish

It’s been another week of wet (and at times very wild) weather here in Brisbane. Our offices seem to have avoided any severe weather – the storms always seem to split when they reach our area. But my fish are loving it and my pond has never looked better. This is the first time I’ve spotted baby goldfish in my pond. Now that the pond weed if thriving, it’s hard to find them sometimes – perhaps that’s what’s protecting them and allowing them to reach maturity. I’ve certainly noticed the population of cloud fish has grown considerably. Try establishing your own water feature this summer. Southland can make a rubber pond liner to suit any size pond

Did you know Elodea flowered?

Elodia is a hardy pond weed suitable for most climates.  I planted 3 or 4 small clumps of elodea in my pond when I established in an old planter box – I just had to drop in a Southland EPDM pond liner.  That was a couple of years ago.  The elodea is now thriving and filling out areas of the pond nicely.  It has proved especially good for creating safe breeding areas for the fish.  But now the plants are so long they run along the surface of the pond.  I was surprised to find they are producing little white flowers with a splash of yellow in the centre.  Unexpected

Cyclone shelters

Southland Liners was contracted to supply and install water tank liners for the new multi-purpose cyclone shelters that provide critical emergency shelter to communities in Central and North Queensland.

The shelters are an initiative of the Department of Housing and Public Works. These shelters will help make Queensland safer and more resilient in the event of a cyclone. The new cyclone shelters are being funded by a gift of $30 million from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and a further $30 million contribution by the Queensland Government.
